The Spoon Race Team |

Spoon Race will celebrate the diversity of the individual as well the unity and strength of the group. Each spoon will be a portrait of its maker or a local historical character. Of all the spoons created, 1000 - one for every year of Oxfordshire’s history – will be selected to represent the county’s citizens past and present. The spoon people will be displayed on a purpose-made table that sweeps down like a runway. There will be a main exhibition of all 1000 spoons in Modern Art Oxford as well as smaller regional displays. Spoon Race is a celebration of the human race’s collective energy and strength in numbers. But there is an undertone of warning: are we lost in the crowd? Are we individuals or just followers? Do we make up our own minds or are we just ‘spoon fed’? The humble kitchen utensil becomes an icon of the human race. Spoon Race has won an Awards For All National Lottery grant of £10,000. The team behind the Spoon Race are all members of the Phil & Jim Art Club, which offers creative activities after school at Ss Philip and James Primary School, Oxford.
